Rali Weaver

Rali Weaver is the minister of the First Church and Parish in Dedham, a Unitarian Universalist congregation. She moved to Dedham in 2007. Prior to entering the ministry Rali attended the University of Maine at Farmington and was a teacher of children with severe learning and behavioral issues for nearly fifteen years before entering the ministry. It was in this capacity (sometime around 1992) that after being gifted with a rag doll by a friend, she honed her own craft of making dolls out of old sweaters and socks in a similar but altogether different manner. She first crafted these dolls as way to give inexpensive handmade gifts to her nine nieces and nephews and later as a craft activity for her students. Rali graduated with a Master’s of Divinity from Bangor Theological Seminary in 2003 and completed her Ministry Internship at the First Unitarian Universalist Society of San Francisco. It was in San Francisco in support of the church Greening Project that she began selling her dolls for the first time. The dolls are made completely from wholly sweaters and socks and stockings and old buttons and yarn. She can always find a use for the sweaters and socks that you can’t give to goodwill or savers. Each doll is made with love and is an original design, named and numbered differently every year.
